Smokey Chipotle Ketchup Win International Acclaim!

August 2, 2011, Fredericksburg, Texas. Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc. from Fredericksburg, Texas is celebrating after winning a prestigious 2011 Great Taste Award. Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc. has been presented with a coveted one-star Gold Great Taste Award for its Smokey Chipotle Chilli Ketchup.

Starting from a simple beginning as a road-side peach stand, Fischer & Weiser now produces more than one hundred products in the same tradition as their first jar of peach preserves. Nestled in the fruitful farmland of the Texas Hill Country, Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc. is still family owned and operated as well as a bustling international company that has become the #1 specialty food company in Texas.

Operating on the simplest truth—produce a quality product and loyal customers will embrace it—helped to launch the company’s flagship sauce, The Original Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce®, into stardom by winning NASFT’s prestigious award for Outstanding New Best Seller in 1997, and has since garnered numerous awards.

Fischer & Wieser gourmet items are available throughout America at specialty food stores, club stores and grocery stores, online and internationally in Canada, Mexico, and the United
Kingdom. Case D. Fischer, CEO and President said: “We are delighted with this award.
Winning a Great Taste Award recognizes the hard work and dedication that goes into making superb food and drink. Our Smokey Chipotle Chilli Ketchup can be considered a gourmet dipping sauce, but also used as ordinary ketchup. Handcrafted with chipotle chilies, Roma tomatoes, garlic, onion and white wine vinegar, this ketchup has a Southwestern flair that once tried, will cause you never to go back to ‘regular’ ketchup again!“ It has previously won the Golden Chile Award in the Ketchup Category in The Chile
Pepper Fiery Food Challenge, 2010.

The Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, are now in their 18th year and going from strength to strength. 7481 products were entered from 1600 companies for the 2011 Great Taste Awards. It took 350 experts 34 days to blind taste all the entries and decide which entries would achieve the coveted one, two and three star gold awards.
The Great Taste Awards judging standards, devised by the Guild of Fine Food, are the most rigorous in the UK. To achieve the 3-star rating a minimum of 20 -more often 30 - judges need to be in complete agreement that the food delivered that indefinable ‘wow’ factor. All the judges’ comments are made available to producers. If no gold is awarded, they need to know why.

Bob Farrand, Chairman for The Great Taste Awards, said: “Winning Gold in the country’s largest and most respected independent food accreditation scheme is a massive pat on the back for any producer - independent proof their products are of the highest quality. We provide constructive feedback from our expert judging teams and for many, winning 1, 2 or 3-star Gold is exactly what’s needed to help grow their businesses, even during a recession. Every winner should feel very proud that their hard work has been rewarded.”

The four regional nominated foods for each of the Great Taste trophy winners have been announced by the Guild of Fine Food and the identity of the regional and national winners and the 2011 Supreme Champion remains a closely guarded secret until the night of 5th September when all will be revealed at the invitation only awards presentation dinner at London’s Royal Garden Hotel. That is the night we find out who carries away the coveted Golden Fork trophies.

Smoky Chipotle Pizza Peppers...YUM!

Daviola Smoky Chipotle is one part heat and two parts smooth. We’ve found the perfect jalapeño chile smoking process and turned something ordinary into a salt-free pizza topping worthy of poetry.

Every chipotle starts its life as a jalapeño. The jalapeños are left on the vine to dry, the best are selected, and then those are smoked to become savory chipotles. It can take up to ten pounds of jalapeños to make one pound of Daviola Smoky Chipotle blend pizza peppers, which shows just how much we care about your taste buds.

More Smoky Chipotle Goodness From The Great White North!

Epicurean Foods has hit The Smoky Chipotle radar again with a couple of new products that we're itchin' to get our hands on!

"Enjoy the increasingly popular taste of smoked jalapeno peppers with this fabulous mix of herbs, spices, peppers and veggies! We've made this dip mix moderately hot (so that there's no need to have the fire department on call), but still warm enough that you'll definitely "feel the heat"!You can also use this versatile dip mix in a number of other ways. To make an authentic roadhouse-style bread dipper, combine about a tablespoon of our dip mix with an ounce each of olive oil and balsamic vinegar (but red or white wine vinegar works great too). Let it mellow for about 30 minutes and use it instead of butter on your crusty, fresh bread.

Our Smokey Chipotle Pepper Dip Mix is tastes delicious in most stir-fry dishes - just sprinkle some into the wok as you are cooking (to your own personal taste) and you'll have created a wonderful new taste sensation that your family and friends will rave about!"

You know how much you love those Olive oil and balsamic bread dippers! Now you can get the Chile-head experience in your favorite snack with Epicurean Foods new Smokey Chipotle Pepper Bread Dipper Seasoning Mix!

"Only a few years ago, Chipotle peppers were unknown to most consumers in North America.  (They are smoked jalapeno peppers).  Recently, however, they have exploded in popularity and have become a more mainstream, but still exotic, taste.  We've combined the fabulous taste of Chipotle peppers with a wonderful melange of herbs and spices to form a superb bread dipper seasoning.  Experience the taste that everyone is raving about!"

Minnesota man attempts to eat only Chipotle burritos for a week straight

This week Jeremy Baier is facing the kind of challenge that you can never truly prepare for. It will test his strength or character, his motivation, and his digestive system. It has been dubbed the Great American Burrito Challenge: From January 24 through January 30 he will consume three Chipotle burritos each day. That's 21 total. The caloric intake promises to be astronomical; the challenge's Twitter page estimates that by the end of the week he will have consumed 23,940 calories (12,600-15,400 is the recommended weekly range for men with moderate body fat).

But he's not doing it to fill an insatiable hunger, he is doing it to raise money for the Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.

Cholula Embraces The Smokey Chipotle.

For those of you that are long time Cholula fans, The Smokey Chipotle has discovered a new addition to the family:

Cholula Chipotle Hot Sauce...featuring a savory blend of Cholula's original "Flavorful Fire" and the smoky and slightly sweet flavor notes or real Chipotle peppers. It brings sensational new flavor to soups, ranch dressing, steaks, chicken and more.

Ingredients: Water, vinegar (white and apple), sugar, peppers (chipotle, guajillo, arbol and piquin), salt, natural flavors, spices, xanthan gum, silicon dioxide, citric acid and caramel.

Silicon dioxide
? Really, is that necessary? Perhaps it is carried into the formula in the powdered chile ingredients.

We Like Our Smokey Chipotle to Be Dirty!

Here's yet another quality manufacturer that has realized the awesome flavor of the Smoky Chipotle!

The Dirty Potato Chip Company describes their latest flavor as: A smooth, smoky taste at first, then the heat of chipotle comes up and grabs you.

If you are not a Chile-head you might find these spicy, but I think a practicing fiery food eater would find these on more on the tingly side. They did however make a wonderful accompaniment to my favorite sandwich the Chipotle Bird. But that my friends is a whole other blog post!

Chipotle and Tequila Cheese Fondue... Yum!

We found this recipe on a fantastic blog by chef and writer Viviane Bauquet Farre.

Her spin on the classic cheese fondue takes a modern look at a forgotten favorite from the past.

Chef Viviane recommends using a Reposado Tequila or Mezcal so that the flavors of the tequila come through the cheese and help cut the richness of the fondue.

Here at The Smoky Chipotle we're gonna fire up the blender and make some great margaritas to go with this decadent appetizer!

You can find Chef Viviane's Recipe at food & style. Let her know you found it at The Smoky Chipotle!
