Minnesota man attempts to eat only Chipotle burritos for a week straight

This week Jeremy Baier is facing the kind of challenge that you can never truly prepare for. It will test his strength or character, his motivation, and his digestive system. It has been dubbed the Great American Burrito Challenge: From January 24 through January 30 he will consume three Chipotle burritos each day. That's 21 total. The caloric intake promises to be astronomical; the challenge's Twitter page estimates that by the end of the week he will have consumed 23,940 calories (12,600-15,400 is the recommended weekly range for men with moderate body fat).

But he's not doing it to fill an insatiable hunger, he is doing it to raise money for the Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.

Chipotle Goes High Tech for Super Convenience.

I love my technology toys; which sometimes do not seem to love me back so much. Chipotle burritos however always show me the love I expect every time I get one. Now you can use your tech toy to get your eat on at Chipotle.

DENVER – August 25, 2009 – Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG and CMG.B) today announced its new ordering application is available on the Apple App Store. The mobile ordering app gives iPhone and iPod touch users the ability to create their favorite Chipotle order, place it at the Chipotle location of their choice, and also pay for their food direct from their device.

"The breakthrough iPhone and iPod touch have really given us the ability to deliver a compelling experience to customers which includes simplicity, personality and attention to detail," said Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-CEO of Chipotle. "We are changing the way the world thinks about and eats fast food, and the iPhone and iPod touch give us powerful new ways to engage and serve our customers. While we have always made our high quality food affordable and accessible so everyone can eat better, we've probably never been this accessible."

Chipotle's time-saving app is being released in conjunction with a newly updated web-based ordering system, available on www.chipotle.com. Customers can place orders through a secure credit card payment capability that allows users to save their information for quick repeat orders and an expanded group ordering feature that allows customers to place multi-item orders under a single name. The app also allows customers to save their favorite Chipotle meals online, as well as those of friends, family, or co-workers. Using location-based technologies customers can also quickly find the nearest Chipotle.

The Chipotle app is available for free from Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/

The app was developed by Pervasent, a Berkeley, Calif. firm that develops mobile applications, and Chipotle's internal IT team and designed by San Francisco-based Sequence.

About Chipotle

Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-CEO, started Chipotle with the idea that food served fast did not have to be a typical fast food experience. Today, Chipotle continues to offer a focused menu of burritos, tacos, burrito bowls (a burrito without the tortilla) and salads made from fresh, high-quality raw ingredients, prepared using classic cooking methods and served in a distinctive atmosphere. Through our vision of Food with Integrity, Chipotle is seeking better food not only from using fresh ingredients, but ingredients that are sustainably grown and naturally raised with respect for the animals, the land, and the farmers who produce the food. Chipotle opened its first restaurant in 1993 and currently operates more than 860 restaurants. For more information, visit chipotle.com.

Chipotle Increases Local Produce Purchases.

DENVER (May 19, 2009) Chipotle Mexican Grill said Monday it would increase the amount of locally grown produce it uses by 10 percent this summer as it expands its Food with Integrity program.

Chipotle plans to purchase at least 35 percent of at least one bulk produce item in all of its restaurants from local farmers when the item is seasonally available, the company said. Last summer Chipotle sought to buy at least 25 percent of produce from local farmers and growers.

Chipotle said it expects to have more than 25 local farms in its network to supply romaine lettuce, green bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, red onions and/or oregano to its more than 860 units nationwide.

Chipotle also serves mostly natural, hormone-free meat from humanely raised animals. In addition, 35 percent of all of its beans are grown organically grown and all of its cheese and sour cream is made with milk from cows that are never given the synthetic hormone rBGH.

Jack In The Box Chipotle Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich

A choice of grilled chicken or spicy crispy, deep-fried chicken fillet on artisanal-style ciabatta bread with Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon and smoky chipotle sauce.

That is the official description that Jack in the Box Inc. has assigned to this sandwich. The Smoky Chipotle's official description is; a tasty crispy chicken sandwich on chewy ciabatta bread with cheese, bacon and a deliciously smoky chipotle sauce! There we said it!

The Chipotle Chicken Ciabatta sandwich, winner of the 2007 MenuMasters Award for Best Menu/Line Extension, was developed to give consumers more choices within the chain’s popular ciabatta line, which was introduced in 2005, said Margaret Barretto, director of new product development for Jack in the Box.

After considering many possible flavor combinations, Barretto and her team ultimately decided on the chipotle chicken combination as it helped to “differentiate” the product line while still fitting into the ciabatta category that consumers already loved. It also added a flavor profile unlike those of the other sandwiches, she says.

“One of the thoughts behind the Chipotle Chicken Ciabatta was that consumers like bold flavors and more authentic flavors,” Barretto says. “As far as ethnic flavors go, I think chipotle is a nice authentic flavor that can add some smoky and spicy notes. It’s a well-rounded flavor, and it’s definitely becoming more familiar."

Thank you Jack In The Box for thinking of us Chipotle-heads!

Don't Stand In Line, Order Online.

DENVER (BUSINESS WIRE) Any computer is now a virtual Chipotle Mexican Grill thanks to the restaurant company’s newly enhanced online ordering system. The new system enables customers to place and pay for their order online, then within minutes go directly to the front of the line at the restaurant to pick it up.

“This is another way we are making our high quality food available and affordable so everyone can eat better,” said Steve Ells, Chipotle founder, chairman and CEO. “We can deliver a great Chipotle experience in a way that meets the demands of time-pressed customers.”

Among the new features added to Chipotle’s online ordering system include a secure credit card payment capability that can save customers’ information so they do not have to re-enter it every time they log on. An expanded group ordering feature allows customers to place multi-item orders under a single name, invite others via e-mail to add to their order, and manage group orders online. Like the previous generation online ordering system, the updated version allows customers to save their own favorite meals online, as well as those of friends, family or co-workers. The system also provides ample space for comments and special instruction so customers can make the same kinds of requests they would if they visited the restaurant.

Chipotle Mexican Grill Ancho Chile Marinade For Chicken

I found this recipe on Recipe Link. It claims that the source is Steve Ells, Founder, CEO & Chef - Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Somehow, with my little insight into the fast food world, I doubt that Steve Ells is giving out the recipes that Chipotle relies on to provide the company with revenue. So let's just call this a copycat recipe. Enjoy!

1 (2 ounce) package dried ancho chiles
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons cumin powder
2 tablespoons fresh oregano, chopped
6 cloves garlic
1/2 red onion, quartered
1/4 cup vegetable oil
4 chicken breasts or meat of choice

Soak dry chiles in water overnight or until soft.

Remove seeds. Add all ingredients except chicken in food processor. Puree until smooth. Spread mixture over chicken breasts and refrigerate at least one hour, up to 24 hours.

Heat grill to about 400 degrees F, or if cooking inside, heat small amount of oil in skillet or grill pan over high heat.

Salt chicken breasts to taste. Grill chicken breasts about4 minutes per side, depending upon thickness, until done.

Serve with rice, black beans, or choice of side dish. Garnish with fresh cilantro.

Chipotle "Burrito Rain". Really Did We Have To Go There?

Remember Chocolate Rain, the ridiculous song by Tay Zonday. You know the one that went viral and exploded all over YouTube. I can only imagine it was caused by some kind of simultaneous mental malfunction. Well looks like the good people at Chipotle Mexican Grill enjoyed it as well:

Smoky Chipotle for Jack In The Box!

With more time-strapped Americans eating on the go, quick-serve snacks have become increasingly popular. The quick-serve chain plans to complete its system wide roll out of the new sandwiches by the end of September.

The Legal Battle for Smokey Chipotle Burns On

It has the potential to be a modern day tale of David and Goliath, if not for the fact that David was a hero with the best interests of his people at hand; perhaps more of a Jack and the beanstalk? In any event it is about a giant and a pipsqueak and it plays out like this.

Kentucky Fried chicken enters the market with their Original Recipe in 1940. It was not until 1974 when they toyed with the idea of a new formula and Extra Crispy was introduced. Now more than two decades later The Colonel has introduces an exciting new flavor in their Smoky Chipotle Crispy Chicken. Interestingly, KFC has decided to roll out this flavor for a limited time only despite the public’s craving for spicy chicken.

Yum! Brands in Louisville, KY; the world’s largest purveyor of fried chicken is the owner of the KFC brand with 14,000 locations in fifty states and ninety-eight countries.

Enter one Chuck Evans; in 1993 Chuck filed for a trademark for the descriptive term “Smokey Chipotle” for use as applied to sauces and condiments. The assigned examining attorney reviewed his application and in March of 1994 he was refused the registration of this trademark....
